House extension in Northcote
Completed April 2011
Builder: Construction 32
Engineer: Jomil Engineering P/L

A large living space and upper level loft with ensuite were added to the rear of this existing single-storey weatherboard house. The addition is north facing, giving the owners more generous, light-filled living spaces facing onto their garden. Formally, the addition took shape by extending the house's existing roof line to accommodate an upper level at its high point with views to the north-east. This formal arrangement establishes an adjacency of interior spaces of different size and quality all opening on to each other and on to the bigger space of the garden. The owners were able to live in the existing part of the house during construction.
